About Dewey Beach: A dog- and kid-friendly little town
If you enjoy ocean waves, beautiful sunsets on the bay, and a cocktail on a deck with a light sea breeze, Dewey Beach is the place for you to vacation. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the serene Rehoboth Bay, Dewey Beach is a favorite seaside resort for young and old alike. Only one mile long and two blocks wide, you can easily walk anywhere in town. With old fashioned cottages among more modern condos and single family homes, Dewey has a charm of its own.
It is a perfect place for a family vacation with activities for the children such as Cinema on the Sand (movies on the beach) every Monday and bon fires complete with marshmallows to roast, on the beach every Wednesday evening in summer. With our rentals being a very short walk to the beach, it’s easy and convenient to take the kids back for a nap or lunch or to go to the bathroom!
Tetherball, volleyball, and skim boarding are allowed on the beach in specified areas. With our beaches less crowded than neighboring Rehoboth and Lewes, there’s plenty of room to build sand castles and bury each other in the sand. And you’re sure to spot dolphins while sitting right on the beach. Sometimes they even jump out of the water, putting on a little show for the sunbathers. Dewey Beach even has its own playground on the bay side. These are some of the reasons why many families return to Dewey year after year.
Dewey is a very dog-friendly town with your favorite hound allowed on the beach year round. In summer they are limited to after 5:30 p.m. and before 9:30 a.m., but in the off-season, they are allowed anytime. Dogs are also welcomed at many local businesses that put out water bowls for their furry guests.
Dewey Beach is an easy drive from Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York. Even more people enjoy the quieter months of fall and spring for a vacation. Rates are lower and the beach is more peaceful.
Enjoy what both Dewey and Rehoboth have to offer. Rehoboth, Dewey’s sister town, is just a short walk down the beach. Or you can take a fun ride on the Jolly Trolley to Rehoboth and other local attractions. Rehoboth has a touch of sophistication with lovely shops and lots of restaurants and eateries throughout the town. Its mile-long boardwalk has an amusement park for the kids. Rehoboth also offers concerts and other entertainment at their boardwalk pavilion in summer.
You can even take the Lewes ferry to Cape May, New Jersey, for a day’s excursion.
For beautiful ocean beaches combined with bay activities, tax-free shopping, sports, and wildlife watching, all in a small town atmosphere, Dewey Beach is the place to be.
